Educational and experience requirements for an Internal Audit role

To qualify for a position within our Internal Audit team, candidates should meet the following educational criteria:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Audit, Insurance, or Risk Management is required.
  • Professional industry qualifications are preferred, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing learning and development in the field.
  • Knowledge of UK regulatory standards and familiarity with Lloyd’s requirements or equivalent international standards would be advantageous.

 

Essential Skills for an Internal Auditor at Brit

In addition to meeting the educational requirements, successful candidates should possess the following essential skills:

  • Clear demonstration of internal and/or external audit experience in insurance, with a focus on Specialty/London markets or relevant International Insurers.
  • An appreciation of risk management principles and the ability to identify and mitigate controls effectively.
  • Proven experience in delivering end-to-end audit assignments, demonstrating thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • Developed knowledge of the insurance industry, including key market trends and challenges.
  • Proficiency in Sarbanes Oxley compliance standards.
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office products.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to influence senior management, underwriters, and colleagues.
  • Strong report writing skills, enabling clear and concise documentation of audit findings and recommendations.

What does an Internal Auditor do day-to-day

The primary role of our Internal Audit function is to help the Board and Executive Management protect the assets, reputation, and sustainability of the organisation. Team members are tasked with a variety of responsibilities on a daily basis, including:

  • Conducting internal audits to assess the adequacy of mechanisms in place for identifying, analysing, and managing key risks within Brit.
  • Undertaking audit fieldwork to gather necessary information and data.
  • Providing independent appraisals of the effectiveness of the control framework.
  • Assisting in the resolution of open audit actions to ensure timely closure of issues.

Our Internal Auditors play a crucial role in ensuring that the organisation operates effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
