Governance
Matthew is the Group CEO of Brit and serves on the Boards of Brit Limited, Brit Syndicates Limited and Brit Insurance Services USA inc. Matthew began his career in Lloyd's in 1988. He joined Brit in 1999 to start up the International Property Division and was appointed as CEO of Brit Global Markets in May 2008 which subsequently became Brit Global Specialty in February 2012 combining our reinsurance and global markets divisions to form one Lloyd's platform. Matthew has served on the Board of the LMA since May 2011 and represents the LMG as Head of Diversity and Inclusion.
Mark joined Brit in April 2010 and led the Group’s strategic review and corporate restructuring as the Director of Strategic Planning and Business Improvement. Prior to his appointment to Chief Financial Officer he held the role of Chief Risk Officer and Director of Strategy. Mark joined Brit from McKinsey & Company where he led high-profile strategic projects for a range of large clients, predominantly in financial services. Mark is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, and originally worked as an actuarial consultant at Mercer. He holds an MA (hons) degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.
Christiern joined Brit in August 2006 as an Underwriter and then took on the position of Divisional Director for Property Facilities in 2010. In December 2014 he was promoted to Deputy Active Underwriter and in 2016 he was promoted to Chief Underwriting Officer for the Group. Prior to Brit he held a number of positions with Insurance Companies including Liberty Syndicates. Christiern is a Chartered member of the CII.
Nick joined Brit in 1999 and was instrumental in establishing our London based property, war and terrorism portfolios. Having immigrated to the US, he helped build Brit USA in 2009 overseeing its expansion into Latin America and later assuming responsibility for our business in Bermuda. He is now responsible for managing a range of specialty package, property, casualty and marine products offered to clients in the commercial and public sectors. Nick serves as a board member of City of Hope’s National Insurance Council.
Lorraine serves on the Board of Brit Group Services Ltd as well as being on the Group Executive Committee and the US Executive Management Committee. Her responsibilities include Marketing, Human Resources, Media relations, Branding, Communications, and Premises Management for the Group. She has previously held a number of senior positions in both the Investment Banking and Insurance sector. She has a wealth of strategic HR and business experience within the international financial services industry including the Automobile Association; Guardian Royal Exchange; Donald Lufkin and Jenrette and the Alea Group.
Shane commenced his actuarial career in 1994 working for National Provident Institution, a life and pensions company, where he spent six years before moving into health insurance with AXA PPP Healthcare, managing the actuarial pricing and capital modelling capability for the organisation. Shane remained at AXA for over four years before a move into the general insurance arena led him to Brit in 2005 where he has undertaken various roles managing the reinsurance and global markets actuarial teams and the catastrophe modelling team, culminating in his appointment to Chief Risk Officer and Chief Actuary. Shane holds a BSc degree in Statistics and a M.Litt degree in Management, Economics and Politics, both from St. Andrews University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
Sheel is responsible for Brit’s global claim services delivery and is a member of the Lloyd’s Managing Agency Claims Council. Sheel joined the Group as Chief Operating Officer for Brit USA based in Chicago before transferring to London in 2016. While at Brit USA, Sheel was responsible for Claims, Legal, Product Delivery, Actuarial and IT. Prior to joining Brit, Sheel was SVP and COO at the Alea Group and held roles in claims, communications and compliance prior to this.
Michael is a member of the Executive Committee and serves on the Board of Brit Syndicates Limited. Prior to joining Brit, Michael was Chief Operating Officer at Talbot, working closely with the business to develop their operational capability. Michael has previously also held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Hiscox, and senior positions at Aon and American Express. He played a key role in the London Market’s Target Operating Model (TOM) having led the Structured Data Capture initiative.
Joy joined the Brit group in July 2013 as Head of Strategy, having spent 15 years as an equity analyst in the European Insurance sector. Joy’s capital markets background and knowledge was invaluable through the IPO process and the sale to Fairfax. In 2017 Joy broadened her role to include oversight of broker relations and business development with Brit’s key broking partners. In April 2018 Joy was appointed Chief Experience Officer. A role which includes Broker Management, Business Development, Innovation, liaison with Fairfax as Brit looks to maximise the overall stakeholder experience. Internally, Joy’s focus will be on building relationships across the Group to support the underwriting business and working closely with the CUO to drive our underwriting performance.
