Types of Actuarial roles available?

Explore the breadth of actuarial opportunities at Brit.

Our department is made up of three core teams:

• Actuarial Function
• Portfolio Insights – Open Market Business
• Portfolio Insights – Portfolio Managed Business

Each role blends technical expertise, professional judgment, and commercial insight to help Brit create value for customers and shareholders.

Actuarial Function Team Responsibilities

• Lead the group’s reserving process to ensure regulatory confidence and financial resilience and support robust, data- driven decision-making.
• Apply technical expertise and wider insights to calculate ultimate claims and Solvency II Technical Provisions, and partner with Finance on financial results and IFRS 17 validation. 
• Enhance understanding of performance drivers by collaborating with Portfolio Insights Team and aligning actuarial insight with strategic goals.
• Produce high-quality regulatory reports, including the Statement of Actuarial Opinion and Actuarial Function Report, reinforcing transparency and governance.

Portfolio Insights Team Responsibilities

(Open Market and Portfolio Managed Business)

• Empower underwriting teams to make better risk selection decisions by advancing our analytical capabilities and providing action orientated insights
• Influence business and portfolio management strategy by leading segmentation reviews that uncover growth potential and optimise portfolio composition.
• Drive the successful partnership with coverholders underwriting business on Brit’s behalf with deep performance analysis that informs tactical and strategic actions.
• Continually increase the impact of our team in enabling Brit’s goals by developing and refining market leading pricing, risk selection and portfolio management tools and analysis that brings clarity to complex data.

What we look for in a Junior Actuary

To apply for a junior role, you should:

• Be working toward actuarial qualification (not required for graduate applicants)
• Hold a numerate degree with strong academic results
• Have excellent IT skills, especially in Excel and VBA; experience with R/Python is a plus

• Recommend premium rates aligned with market conditions
• Use data to shape underwriting strategy
