Overview

Brit Re is our 'A' rated (re)insurer, domiciled in Bermuda.

Brit Re was incorporated in 2007 and holds a Class 4 licence issued by the Bermuda Monetary Authority to underwrite (re)insurance business and holds a Financial Strength Rating and a Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating both of 'A' (Excellent) from AM Best. The ratings reflect Brit Re’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as very strong. Read more about our classification here.

Brit Re offers separately capitalised paper to our long-established Lloyd’s business. We provide (re)insurance solutions for clients based in the US and Bermuda, underwriting a diversified portfolio of property, casualty and specialty business both domestically and globally. We can also consider international business. We aim to add value for our clients, using our extensive experience in the class and our market leading claims service to deliver long term successful partnerships.

Brit Reinsurance (Bermuda) Limited is approved as a reciprocal jurisdiction (re)insurer in the US states listed here.

This status allows us to write business directly with cedents in those states without the need for local collateral, reducing administrative requirements and supporting more efficient reinsurance placements.

As a reciprocal jurisdiction (re)insurer, Brit Re can streamline cross-border transactions, providing cedents with greater flexibility and faster access to capital. This capability underpins long-term partnerships by enabling smooth, reliable trading across both domestic and international markets
