Working at Brit has enabled me to develop my knowledge of the Insurance market through the training offered and the support of everyone that I have been able to work with.

Brit has a culture in which people are always challenging you to do better and encouraging you to find ways in which you can improve the way you work. People are always willing to help in relation to work and studies.

I had the opportunity to develop my knowledge and experience in various teams which has enabled me to gain a broad insight into the different aspects and roles within Finance. In the Regulatory Reporting team I was able to contribute in completing the returns that are required to be submitted to Lloyd’s and have also gained experience in Group Reporting and Operations where I was able to be involved in the production of the financial statements. I have also completed rotations in the Investment Accounting and the Underwriting Accounting team where I was able to develop my technical skills and overall understanding.

A key project that I have worked on included producing a new methodology for the reinsurance premium process where I was able to develop my understanding and build a new allocation process. The previous process was inefficient and time consuming therefore I was able to make it more efficient.

In my current role as an Investment Accountant I am responsible for the reporting which includes fund accounting, financial statements and regulatory returns. I have also been given the opportunity to get involved and gain insight into the Investment and Treasury division. Brit encourages you to study for a qualification so that you can progress in your career and offer training courses which are useful in helping you to grow and complete your work more efficiently. Since becoming ACCA qualified I have been able to apply the knowledge that I have gained from studying to aspects of my job which has helped me to develop my understanding of what I do, in particular the reporting aspect.
