Global Markets Claims

We aim to be the best in our industry for customer service. Key to this is the prompt and efficient handling and resolution of claims in accordance with the FSA principle of Treating Customers Fairly.

The Global Markets Claims Team ensures that the technical knowledge and skills of our adjusting staff and in-house counsel provide the best solution for customers’ claims and that we deal with them in a fair and consistent way. We aim to keep clients and their Brokers fully informed at all times through regular communication with our empowered and technically skilled staff.

Every claim, no matter how complex, is an opportunity for us to support our customers and brokers. We use our significant expertise in third party defence, balance sheet protection, loss minimisation, restoration and business continuity. Aligning our claims professionals with our underwriting teams ensures all-round understanding of our products, our customers, their businesses and ultimately their risks.

Our robust approval process ensures that all claims service providers understand our claims philosophy and add value. Such arrangements are controlled by service contracts underpinned by key performance indicators and service standards. These ensure that a focus on customer service is embedded within our external service providers.

We are actively engaged in the development of electronic claims processing to improve the service we offer.

Paul Sewell

Paul Sewell
Head of Claims - Global Markets

Paul commenced his insurance career in 1982 in the Professional Indemnity division of a large Lloyd's broker, in both claims technical and broking areas at Director and Executive Director level. He was appointed Liability Claims Manager of a large North American Casualty underwriters in 1993. In 1997 he was appointed Director responsible for new business production in an insurance service company. He joined Brit Insurance in April 2001 as a claims adjuster with responsibility for all non-marine classes of business with specific focus on North American risks and was promoted to North American Claims Manager in 2003. In 2007 he was appointed to Head of Claims Global Markets with responsibility for claims arising from Brit Insurance's Global Accident and Health, Global Financial and Professional Risks, Global Marine and Global Property underwriting units.


Julie Brett

Julie Brett
Claims Team Leader

Julie commenced her career in 1983 within the North American Casualty claims division of a leading Lloyd's broking house. In 1990 she moved across to underwriting and has worked at several Lloyd's syndicates as a claims adjuster concentrating on Financial Institutions, Professional Indemnity, D&O/EPL and, to a lesser extent, General Liability. Julie joined Brit Insurance in 2007 as a Senior Claims Adjuster for FI and International PI business. Julie has been the Team Leader for these classes of business since 2008.


Andrew Lucas

Andrew Lucas
Professional Lines Manager, Global Markets

Andrew has over 15 years’ experience in the London insurance market. Working mainly in the Professional Indemnity arena, Andrew began his career at an international broking house before moving to become a claims adjuster at a Lloyd's syndicate and then an insurance company. Having joined Brit Insurance in 2005, Andrew now handles all claims arising from the Professional Risks portfolio with an emphasis on North America.

Marion Fraser

Marion Fraser
Claims Team Leader

Marion has over 30 years' experience in the Lloyd's Market. She began her career within the Marine Underwriting team at Wren Syndicates 735 and returned to the Syndicate in 1980 to take up a position as a junior Claims Assistant following a short time with the Salvage Association. Marion has continued with the group throughout its' transition and holds the position of Team Lader for the Global Market's Marine division. As a Senior Claims Adjuster she personally specialises in Hull & Machinery and Energy claims.


Mike Barry

Mike Barry
Short Tail Manager, Global Markets

Mike has been working in the Lloyd's market since 1990 and has claims experience in a wide variety of product lines. Since 2002 he has been responsible for Direct and Facultative North American Property claims and this role has recently been expanded to include all International Property business. Mike holds the position of Team Leader and Senior Claims Adjuster for the Global Markets property division.
