Brit Insurance to sponsor Sky Sports test cricket

Brit Insurance will be the broadcast sponsor of Sky Sports' test match cricket coverage for the next two summers, including 2009's hotly anticipated Ashes series.
May 01, 2008

The sponsorship extends Brit Insurance’s involvement in English cricket and comprises:

  • Live tests: all of England's home test matches in 2008 and 2009
  • Highlights: prime time highlights of each day’s play
  • "Cricket Writers on TV": cricket discussion show every Sunday morning

The sponsorship will feature Brit Insurance opening and closing credits to these programmes and 'break bumpers' either side of advertising breaks. The credits are being produced by Sky Sports.

Brit Insurance is already actively engaged in cricket sponsorship. It is sponsor of Surrey County Cricket Club and the Brit Insurance Oval, the insurance partner of English Test Match Grounds and a senior commercial partner of the Professional Cricketers' Association.

Mark Jones, Group Marketing Director at Brit Insurance, commented:

"This is an excellent reinforcement of our existing cricket sponsorships and will contribute significantly to building our brand among our key audiences. We are engaging in broadcast sponsorship for the first time and are looking forward to working with Sky over the next two seasons."

David Shore, Head of Sponsorship & Commercial Partnerships at Sky Media, said:
"This is a fantastic new partnership for Sky Sports and underlines the anticipation of this summer's tests and next year's Ashes. I'm delighted that Brit Insurance has chosen Sky for its first broadcast sponsorship, recognising the quality of coverage and the ability to deliver target audiences."

England face New Zealand in three tests this summer, beginning on 15 May, before Michael Vaughan's men contest South Africa in four tests during July and August. Sky Sports will be showing uninterrupted coverage exclusively live and in high definition.

"Cricket Writers on TV" is the Sunday morning show presented by former England player Paul Allot. Paul and several cricket journalists debate the major cricket stories of the week. The show returns to Sky Sports Network on Sunday 25 May.

This summer Sky is showing a record number of live matches from the four major domestic trophies, including each county at least three times.
