Simon Stonehouse, has been appointed Hull Underwriter of Brit Insurance underwriting on behalf of both Brit Syndicate Limited's Syndicate 2987 and Brit Insurance Limited with effect from 1st September.
September 13, 2004
In preparation for the retirement of Peter Chrismas in October, Simon Stonehouse, has been appointed Hull Underwriter of Brit Insurance underwriting on behalf of both Brit Syndicate Limited's Syndicate 2987 and Brit Insurance Limited with effect from 1st September.
Simon, who has deputised on the marine hull account since 1993, has over 20 years experience in marine underwriting. He also has a strong grounding in statistical research, analysis and risk management.
Commenting on his appointment Simon said: "I have very much enjoyed my years working with Peter who is considered to be one of the world's foremost hull underwriters. I am now looking forward to further building on the lead position that we have created for Brit in the marine market."
A well known figure in the marine world, Peter's long career as an underwriter has encompassed roles in both the companies and Lloyd's sectors. A former chairman of the Ocean Hull Committee of the International Union of Marine Insurance, Peter is also currently a member of the London market’s Joint Hull Committee and the Joint Construction Committee, positions he has held since 1987.
Peter has also held a number of high profile positions within maritime London. These include his current role as a director of the Lloyd's Register of Shipping and his former position as a member of the board of the Salvage Association.
Peter Chrismas said: "Brit has created a strong marine team and I have no doubts regarding their commitment to a focussed and successful future. Simon is a good friend and working together has encouraged us both to extend our knowledge and skills during the past underwriting cycle, which augers well for the future."
Dane Douetil commented: "Simon's appointment as Hull Underwriter for Brit Insurance is well deserved having done an excellent job jointly developing the account with Peter over many years. For our customers, this will be 'business as usual' and a natural progression. We thank Peter for his immense contribution to both Brit and the London Marine market over many years and wish him well in his retirement."
