Brit Insurance Limited and Brit Syndicates Limited board appointment

Brit Insurance Holdings plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Webster as a non-executive director on the boards of its underwriting operations, Brit Insurance Limited and Brit Syndicates Limited.

The appointment takes effect from 17 August, subject to the usual regulatory approvals.

To further reinforce Brit's commitment to apply common philosophy and consistent standards of management and control across its two underwriting operations, the boards of both for Brit Insurance Limited (BIL) and Brit Syndicates Limited (BSL) the managing agency of Syndicate 2987 at Lloyd's are now mirrored. BIL and BSL are both authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

The Board for each company is now composed as follows:

J A V Townsend, Non-Executive Chairman for BSL/Non-Executive Director for BIL
K Culley, Independent Non-Executive Director for BSL/Independent Non-Executive Chairman for BIL
D J Douetil, Chief Executive Officer
M Scales, Finance Director
R A Field, Underwriting Director
P D Nicholas, Independent Non-Executive Director
C J Ridgwell, Independent Non-Executive Director
P D Webster, Independent Non-Executive Director

Peter Webster held a number of positions with Sun Alliance throughout the UK until he moved to head office in 1987 as Commercial Marketing Manager. Various roles followed until in 1992, he was promoted to Director responsible for commercial lines for the regions.

Following the merger with the Royal Peter took on responsibility for the Group's businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean. During this time Peter was involved with various acquisitions and disposals to restructure the business.

In 2002, Peter returned to London to take on the role of Managing Director of UK Commercial Lines, where he remained until he retired in 2004.
