Brit recruits leading Liability underwriting team

Brit Insurance Holdings PLC today announces that it has recruited a leading liability underwriting team specialising in Employee & Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance. John Murphy is the underwriter. He will be joined by his entire team.

John Murphy is currently the active underwriter of Lloyd's Syndicate 2525 and has over 30 years' experience in the UK insurance market. He sought to novate the management of Syndicate 2525 from Abacus Syndicates Limited (ASL) to Brit Syndicates Limited (BSL) but ASL were not prepared to recommend such a novation, although John Murphy and his team have been fully released from their contracts. John Murphy will start at Brit on 14th October 2002.

Brit's business plan predicts that circa £100m of premium income will be written for 2003 in this class. This forms an integral part of Brit's plans to underwrite approximately £1 billion of gross premium income for 2003.

This is the fourth major team to join Brit in the last seven months."
