BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011
The England cricket team featured heavily in the recent BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2011.
Andy Flower won Coach of The Year after masterminding England's rise to the top of Test cricket, which included winning the Ashes in Australia for the first time in 24 years. Andy was also named UK Coach of the Year and High Performance Coach at the 2011 UK Coaching Awards.
The England Test cricket team won the Team of the year award, beating Manchester United and Wales' rugby union teams to top spot. The team have not lost a Test Series since May 2009, and their rise to the top of the ICC five-day rankings was confirmed following a 4-0 whitewash of India last summer.
Whilst cyclist Mark Cavendish secured the big prize at the awards on 22 December 2011, both England Test Captain, Andrew Strauss and batsman Alastair Cook were on the short-list.
