Dane Douetil CBEChief Executive OfficerDane began his career in the insurance sector in 1982 having graduated from Birmingham University with an Honours Degree in Commerce.
He spent the first twelve years as a broker, then a short period as a risk consultant to several financial institutions before moving into the underwriting side of the industry on his appointment as Chief Executive of Brit Insurance Limited, the FSA regulated insurance company subsidary of Brit Insurance Holdings PLC.
Having joined the Brit Holdings Board in 1999, Dane became Group Chief Executive of Brit Insurance Holdings PLC in April 2005.
Dane is also chairman of the Contract Certainty Steering Committee and Chairman of the Market Reform Group having previously chaired the Lloyd's Market Association.
In June 2007 Dane was recognised for his services to business by being appointed as a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
Kathy LissonChief Operation OfficerKathy was appointed to the Board in April 2006, having joined Brit Insurance as Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Group’s Executive Management Committee (“EMC”) in September 2005. She is also a director of Ri3k Limited, a reinsurance and insurance trading service.
From 2002 to 2005, Kathy was operational transformation director at Barclays PLC where she was responsible for major strategic investment programmes and operations redesign for the Barclays group of companies. She was also a director of Intelligent Processing Solutions Limited, the largest processor of cheques in the UK, from 2004 to 2005.
Kathy was an executive vice president of the Bank of Montreal from 1997 to 2002, leading technology, operations and business divisions. She was a senior financial services consulting partner in Price Waterhouse from 1985 to 1997 and was elected to the Price Waterhouse Policy Board which managed the Canadian practice in 1996. Kathy’s consultancy practice included transformational engagements within the Canadian and US general insurance sectors.
Matthew ScalesFinance DirectorMatthew joined the Board as Finance Director in 1999.
He has been Finance Director of Brit Insurance Limited since its establishment in 1993 and was appointed Finance Director of Brit Syndicates Limited in August 2004.
Matthew is a fellow of the Institute Chartered Accountants and joined the C T Bowring Group in 1979, transferring within that group to English & American Group in 1982. He was the finance director of English & American Group plc from 1991 to 1993 and was Group Financial Controller of Benfield Group plc from 1996 to 1999.
He is a member of the Finance Committee of the Lloyd’s Market Association.
Peter GoddardCompany SecretaryPeter graduated in Economics and Philosophy and, after law school, went into media. In 1986 he joined a former Bowring subsidiary – English & American Group - becoming Group Secretary in 1988. In 1991 Peter transferred to Head Companies LLC and became a founding Director of the insurance outsourcer, TSS Eastgate Group (now Capita Insurance Services), responsible for claims and legal. In 2000 Peter joined Brit as Group Secretary.
He is a member of the Risk Management Committee of the Lloyd’s Market Association.
Peter BurrowsCEO of Brit UKPeter was appointed CEO of Brit UK on 1 July 2006. Prior to this, he was Managing Director, UK Commercial of Zurich Financial Services for just over five years.
The bulk of his career has been spent at RSA (Sun Alliance) where he held a number of senior positions with responsibility for sales, marketing, underwriting, distribution and risk services. During this period, he also had a spell as Managing Director of National Vulcan, the engineering insurance and inspection subsidiary of Sun Alliance. Prior to joining Zurich he was Director, UK Regions of RSA.
Jonathan TurnerCEO of Brit ReinsuranceHaving graduated from University College Oxford with a degree in Modern History, Jonathan joined Allstate Reinsurance as part of the Underwriting team in 1990. Specialising in Motor and Casualty Excess of Loss reinsurance Jonathan was part of QBE’s acquisition of Allstate in late 1996. Thereafter, he held various underwriting management roles, most recently as the Director of Underwriting of the Reinsurance division, QBE Re, a role that covered the various class specialist underwriting teams across the London and Dublin company locations.
Jonathan joined Brit in June 2005 as Reinsurance Underwriting Director. He joined Brit’s Executive Management Committee in April 2006 and, following a change of structure, he became CEO of Brit Reinsurance in May 2007. In May 2008 he was appointed Active Underwriter of Syndicate 2987 at Lloyd's of London, managed by Brit Syndicates Limited.
